BlackBack Writing Handwriting is a unique way to teach handwriting.  There are four programs: shapes, upper-case letters, lower case letters and numbers. There is only one shape, letter or number on a page in white on a black background so it is clear to see what to do without distractions on the page. There are 4 sizes of each shape, letter and number to learn how to develop the fine motor coordination to write smaller. These laminated can be used repeatedly with dry-erase writing tools and sensory materials.

Absolutely!  That is one of BlackBack Writing’s best features!  Prompts such as dots, dashes or arrows can be added and removed as needed to accommodate different learners or the same learner as they progress.  Just wipe off what you don’t need and add what you do need.

No. These programs are made for any child who wants to have fun and learn! Yes, there are many testimonials from parents and teachers of children with special needs because they have seen great results; including those with autism, ADD, low vision and learning challenges. Because of this, our program is being used in the special needs community and in “typical” and integrated classes.

BlackBack Handwriting has been used with children as young as 2 ½ to help them identify shapes.  Adults relearning to write and older adults with dementia have used BlackBack Handwriting as shapes, letters and numbers are retained in their long-term memory.

Our handwriting program uses print. Children see print most frequently in the environment and in books and seem to grasp this formation easier.

We have had many left-handed children use our program, all reporting great success. Letter formations should be made the same way regardless of which hand is used. We encourage use of the reference guide to show children how to properly formulate each letter.
